Its been a tough week for many of us at MTL, our customers and partners. As promised we are keeping you updated every day with latest news from East Cost.
Currently we are expecting to restore more a less stable working schedule starting Monday, October 5. It will depend on several factors which we unfortunately can’t control. We are continuing to accept vehicle deliveries throughout the weekend 24/7.
Sandy’s aftermath has left much uncertainty within the transportation industry. The ports of New York and New Jersey currently remains closed without a clear timeline to return to service. As a result, it is expected that many shipping lines will be forced to divert cargo to alternate ports along the east coast. The volume of diverted cargo has the potential to significantly impact ocean and inland rates throughout the eastern portion of the country. While we cannot predict the extent of these potential rate changes at this time, we must prepare you that it may become necessary to re-quote rates within the impacted areas.
Until the situation develops further and more information is made available, we ask that you confirm any previously quoted rates with our sales department. It is imperative that this be done prior to sending your pick and delivery orders to MTL so it doesn’t delay delivery and/or pick up of your cargo. Please understand we will work diligently to maintain rates whenever possible, but unfortunately based on factors outside normal operations, we may need to adjust previously quoted rates.
Thank you for your understanding during this unprecedented situation and we look forward to continuing to service your transportation needs.
